City Music Center-TRYPO Collaboration Expands Pre-Collegiate Music Experience

A new collaboration between Duquesne’s City Music Center and the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra (TRYPO) will provide members of both organizations with additional opportunities and an enhanced music experience.

Established to be the premier pre-collegiate music program in Pittsburgh, the City Music Center can now offer students membership in TRYPO as part of its standard tuition following acceptance into one of its orchestras by audition.

“This new relationship between our two organizations will provide so many great opportunities,” said Christopher Bromley, director of the City Music Center. “We are thrilled that we can now offer our students participation in an established and well-respected youth orchestra as part of the center’s core curriculum.”

Beginning with the 2012-2013 season, the collaboration will provide City Music Center and TRYPO students options in the following key musical disciplines:

  • private lessons
  • musicianship (music theory, music history, ear training, etc.)
  • small ensembles
  • large ensembles.

Students will also have the option to participate in only TRYPO or the center with an a la carte membership.

As part of the collaboration, TRYPO will move to its new location at Duquesne’s Mary Pappert School of Music.

“We are pleased to extend Duquesne’s mission of service to the talented musicians of the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra,” said Dr. Edward Kocher, dean of the School of Music. “Our exciting new partnership will benefit both of our organizations and the music students of our region.”

The City Music Center is a music school for children, teens and adults from the Pittsburgh and tri-state area. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the center provides conservatory level training, including private instrumental lessons, eurhythmic and musicianship classes and participation in ensembles.
