Largest Class in History Slated to Graduate on May 4

The graduating class of 2012 will be the largest ever at Duquesne University. The nearly 1,650 students will be recognized at the annual Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 4, at 5 p.m. in the A.J. Palumbo Center.

The University will also confer an honorary doctor of humane letters upon Dr. Michael G. Fullan, a distinguished scholar, teacher and mentor, who is a recognized authority on change in the field of education and educational policy. Duquesne alumna Marie Milie Jones, founding partner of JonesPassodelis, PLLC, will deliver the Commencement address.

The following will deliver the keynote addresses at the University’s Diploma Ceremonies on Saturday, May 5:

  • McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts
    Kate Fletcher, executive director of Hekima Place, a home in Kenya for girls orphaned primarily by HIV/AIDS
    9 a.m., A.J. Palumbo Center
  • Palumbo•Donahue School of Business
    Donna Sturgess, founding partner and president of Buyology Inc.
    Noon, A.J. Palumbo Center
  • School of Nursing
    Dr. Eileen Zungolo, outgoing dean of the School of Nursing
    Noon, Duquesne Union Ballroom
  • School of Education
    Michael Fullan (see above)
    3 p.m., A.J. Palumbo Center
  • Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences
    Dr. Shannon Parks, section head of environmental science and sustainable technology at Alcoa Technical Center
    3 p.m., Duquesne Union Ballroom
  • Rangos School of Health Sciences
    Dr. Jerome Martin, founding/retired dean of the School of Health Sciences
    6 p.m., A.J. Palumbo Center.
