Duquesnefest Brings Prospects to Campus

Approximately 700 prospective students have registered for Duquesnefest, an annual open house hosted by the Office of Admissions.

Designed for high school students approaching their senior year, a time when college selection starts in earnest, this year’s event will take place on Sunday, June 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on campus.

Now in its second decade, Duquesnefest has consistently drawn large groups of prospects and their families to campus for a closer look at the programs, facilities and services that make up the college experience at the University. Duquesnefest activities include scheduled times for meeting faculty members and attending presentations about majors along with free time for exploring the campus and asking questions.

Representatives of nearly all of the University’s clubs, activities and services as well as members of the faculty and staff from schools of study will be stationed at tents and tables along Academic Walk, ready to provide information and respond to questions about Duquesne.

Duquesnefest is one of a series of annual gatherings, including fall- and spring-semester open houses, which the Office of Admissions and its partners use to provide information to college-bound high school students. Moreover, to ensure that the University will benefit from the largest possible applicant pool, the admissions office continues to target students in surrounding states as well as Pennsylvania to interest them in attending these recruitment events.

According to Debra Zugates, director of undergraduate admissions, preregistration for Duquesnefest reveals the University’s widening reach and reputation, “It’s good to see that this year’s Duquesnefest promises to have a large turnout and that we are attracting prospects from a wide geographical area,” Zugates said.
