Des Places Residence Hall Dedicated, Plaque Unveiled

Des Places Hall, the newest residence hall on campus, was formally dedicated at a special ceremony on Sept. 14.

The Rev. Ray French, C.S.Sp., Spiritan Campus Ministry director and University chaplain, blessed Des Places Hall during the ceremony, which was held outside at the building’s Seitz Street entrance.

The original Des Place building was built in 1909 as an orphanage and a home for newspaper boys. Under Duquesne’s ownership, the building was dedicated in 1981 to Spiritan Congregation founder Fr. Claude-Francois Poullart des Places. The building was demolished in 2010 for construction of the new living learning center.
