What Do Bingo and Basketball Have in Common? The United Way!

The campus community is invited to attend an evening of Bingo and Basketball on Friday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. in the A.J. Palumbo Center’s auxiliary gym to support this year’s United Way campaign.

Bingo tickets, which are available for $10 in advance or $15 at the door, can be purchased through Monday, Nov. 5, via email or by calling 412.396.6063. Tickets include two beverages, a hot dog and chips. For an additional $3, attendees can stay and watch as the Duquesne women’s basketball team host Liberty University in the first round game of the 2012 Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament. Bingo proceeds benefit the United Way.

Because of the hard work and generosity of the Duquesne community, the United Way campaign has surpassed its goal of $85,000 and is close to reaching its target of a 35 percent participation rate. “Duquesne has been wonderful and I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed so far,” said Mary McIntyre, chair of the campus campaign. “But with less than a month left to go there is still work to be done.”

Many employees feel that if they don’t give a certain dollar amount, it isn’t enough. But as McIntyre pointed out, a dollar a pay can make a huge difference in someone’s life. “The smallest act of kindness can result in a chain reaction of good for people in need,” she explained.

All contributions to the United Way of Allegheny County will support the vital services that sustain many people who are struggling to get by. Employees that haven’t contributed yet and wish to do so, can learn more or donate online here.
