Schillo Accepts Position in New York System

Stephen A. Schillo, vice president for management and business, will be leaving the University for a position at SUNY Fredonia early next year.

Duquesne’s chief finance and business officer since 2002, Schillo will start on Jan. 22 in the role of SUNY Fredonia’s vice president for finance and administration. He will oversee an annual consolidated operating budget of more than $103 million and administrative offices such as accounting, budget, internal control, payroll and purchasing, as well as the Departments of Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Planning, Facilities Services, Human Resources, Student Accounts and University Services, and the Faculty Student Association.

During his 30-year career in academic and municipal administration, Schillo has served as vice president for finance and administration at Gannon University in Erie, from 1996 to 2002 and as associate vice president—chief financial officer for the main campus of Georgetown University from 1993 to 1996.

Schillo began the higher education portion of his career with his alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University, in 1987, beginning as budget director and rising to associate vice president for business affairs and university planning from 1990 to 1993. He began his career as assistant director of finance for the city of Pittsburgh in 1982, then became deputy director of finance. Schillo holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and economics, as well as a master’s degree in public management and policy analysis, from Carnegie Mellon.

A national search to fill the position will begin immediately, chaired by Provost Dr. Ralph Pearson.
