Submissions Being Accepted for Campus Art Show Set for March

As editor of Lexicon, the literary and arts journal at Duquesne, Jennifer Collins struggled to showcase artwork submissions that didn’t translate easily to print media.

“Sculptures, film and even paintings just need to be seen in person to really make an impact,” said Collins, an English doctoral student.

To solve the issue, Collins and other members of the Lexicon staff staged a campus art show in 2012 that featured the work of 18 faculty and student artists. Pieces included sculpture, photography, drawings, paintings, glasswork, film and even live music. The show was met with much success, so the Lexicon staff is planning an even larger event in 2013.

“This year, we’re taking over the whole fifth floor of the Power Center for a full day,” Collins said. “Last year was amazing, but there’s no doubt that this year will hold even more talent, more surprises and more excitement.”

The Campus Art Show will be held on Tuesday, March 12, from noon to 9 p.m. with live performances scheduled throughout the day and a reception beginning at 6 p.m.

Artists and performers—students, faculty or staff—interested in participating in the show are asked to email lexicon@duq.edu. Space is limited.

“We really hope everyone in our community will take advantage of the opportunities offered through this show,” Collins said. “There’s a lot of talent on this campus, and much of it is hidden except on days like this.”
