Annual ‘Run for Ryan’ Returns on April 13

The University community will again gather to join in celebrating the life and service of Marine Sgt. Ryan Lane by dedicating a campus 5K run/walk in his honor on Saturday, April 13.

Sgt. Ryan Lane

Lane was killed in action in Afghanistan in July 2009 on his second tour of duty. His family has dedicated years of service to the University; his Aunt Renee Kochanski works in housekeeping and his mother Kathy Haney worked at the Spiritan Center in Bethel Park from 1989 to 2004.

The Run for Ryan, sponsored by the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement (SLPA), in partnership with the Office of Residence Life, is a collaborative effort organized by ROTC students at Duquesne. Proceeds contribute to a scholarship endowment in Ryan’s name that will help a deserving veteran student defray education expenses at Duquesne. To date, the effort has exceeded its initial goal and organizers are looking to maximize scholarship opportunities.

The entry fee of $20 includes a T-shirt, and the chance to win prizes. Registration can be completed online, where donations can be made by those unable to attend.

Race day registration will be available, with payment by credit, debit or a check made payable to Duquesne University.

Updates and more information are available on the Run for Ryan page on Facebook.
