Free Car Seat Safety Check Offered on Campus

Parents, grandparents and other caregivers of young children are encouraged to take advantage of a free car seat safety check to be offered on campus on Thursday, June 13. Certified child passenger safety technicians will check to ensure car seats are in good working order, installed safely and fitted appropriately.

“We do everything we can to make sure that seat is being used in the safest possible way when it leaves us,” said Sgt. Frank Cortazzo of Duquesne’s Department of Public Safety, which is co-sponsoring the event along with the Young Alumni Council, UPMC Mercy and Pennsylvania’s Traffic Injury Prevention Project.

The checks last 20-30 minutes, and if possible, the child should be brought to the safety check to ensure the best fit of the car seat’s straps.

The event is open to the public and will be held inside the exit of the Locust Street Parking Garage, across from the School of Music.

Appointments are available by calling 412.885.0266. Walk-ins will be taken as time permits.
