“It is an honor to be recognized as one of nursing’s most accomplished leaders. It is my goal to continue to make a positive impact on the nursing discipline and the health of our citizens,” Glasgow said.

According to the AAN, Fellows are expected to engage with health care leaders outside of the academy in helping to transform the nation’s health care system by:

  • Enhancing the quality of health and nursing care;
  • Promoting healthy aging and human development across the life continuum;
  • Reducing health disparities and inequalities;
  • Shaping healthy behaviors and environments;
  • Integrating mental and physical health care; and
  • Strengthening the nursing and health care delivery system, nationally and internationally.

“Selection for fellowship in the academy is one of the most prestigious honors in the field of nursing,” said AAN President Dr. Joanne Disch. “I congratulate all of the new Fellows and look forward to honoring their accomplishments and welcoming them into the academy.”

Glasgow has served as dean of the Duquesne School of Nursing since August 2012. During her tenure, U.S. News and World Report ranked the School of Nursing’s graduate offerings No. 7 in the Best Online Nursing Programs category for its 2013 Best Online Education Program Rankings. In addition, the school was named among the Top 50 Most Social Media Friendly Nursing Schools of 2012 by Nursing-School.com.

The AAN serves the public and the nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis and dissemination of nursing knowledge.
