Campus Community Gears up for Annual United Way Campaign

Members of the 2013 United Way committee will be stationed in the City View Café between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, armed with sweet treats and information about the upcoming campaign.

The annual fundraising campaign doesn’t officially begin until Friday, Sept. 13, but Dr. Evan Stoddard, associate dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts who is chair of this year’s United Way campaign, is already hard at work making plans and working with the campus community to ensure another successful year.

“Last year, Duquesne donated more than $115,000 and was recognized by the United Way as a 2012 Outstanding Campaign Performance winner,” explained Stoddard. “I know how generous Duquesne can be and am excited to be leading the charge this year because every dollar we raise is a blessing in someone’s life. My hope is that every member of the Duquesne family will make a contribution, no matter how small, to our community this year through the United Way.”

Facilities Management will sponsor the annual “slam dunk” tank on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Mellon Patio. For a small donation, employees can enjoy light snacks and drinks and will have the opportunity to throw softballs at a target to dunk University staff and faculty members.

Other upcoming campaign events include a special United Way Day at a Dukes basketball game, a campus-wide luncheon and prize drawings for early-bird donors.
