Entrepreneurial Group Seeks Faculty Help in Trying to Reach Across Disciplines

Faculty members are urged to encourage students in all disciplines to learn about the Duquesne Entrepreneurial Alliance (DEA), which is again active at the University and has scheduled its first meeting for Thursday, Aug. 29, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 713 of Rockwell Hall.

Dr. Jack Mason

The DEA is developing and promoting the concept and spirit of entrepreneurship on campus, supporting students with an interest in starting up, running and growing a new business at some point in their careers. The DEA, which is part of a larger concept to support entrepreneurship across all schools at Duquesne, is advised by Dr. Jack Mason, director of the entrepreneurial studies program, who has an extensive background in startup, turn-around and performance improvement.

“Entrepreneurial knowledge, insights and skills can be useful to graduates of any of Duquesne’s schools,” Mason explained. “Graduates will have the knowledge in their discipline, but also can use some business basics, from legal advice to startup how-tos. That’s where the DEA can support interested students, regardless of their majors.”

A student-run organization, the DEA will, among other activities, connect students with key business leaders within the community who are eager to share their knowledge and advice with future entrepreneurs.

The purpose of the meeting is to gauge interest and to get input from students about future DEA activities. Interested students who can’t attend are asked to complete a brief survey. Students can RSVP to President Pro Tem Krista George, whom they can contact for more information.
