Volunteer Judges Needed for Regional Science Competition

Duquesne University and the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences will host the 80th Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences (PJAS) regional competition on Saturday, Feb. 1, marking the first time this event has been held at a college or university.

Faculty and alumni volunteers are needed in all fields of science and technology to help with this event and can register online.

For the competition, up to 1,000 seventh- through 12th-graders from as many as 100 schools in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties will present research projects. Teams of three judges will rate student presentations based upon their application of the scientific method.

PJAS is a statewide nonprofit organization that stimulates and promotes interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through research investigations. Each presentation is evaluated and scored, with awards presented by grade level and research category.
