Black History Month Events Scheduled Throughout February

Black History Month is being celebrated at Duquesne throughout February with events coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

All events are free and open to the public, but some events require guests to RSVP.

Friday, Feb. 14

Several organizations under the umbrella of the Office of Multicultural Affairs are partnering with graduate chapters of the Divine 9 in the city of Pittsburgh, which are comprised of the various historically black fraternities and sororities, for a Be the Match bone marrow registration from noon to 5 p.m. in the PNC Atrium of the Union. The program connects patients with lifesaving donors. On-campus partners include the Black Student Union, NAACP-Duquesne Chapter, Black Greek Council, Collegiate 100, Caribbean Student Association, the Union of African Students and a host of other students. Wednesday, Feb. 19

The Office of Multicultural Affairs will host It Takes a Village: Networking Dinner at 7 p.m. in the Africa Room. Faculty, staff, students and select community leaders are invited to network with members of the Black Student Union, Collegiate 100 of Duquesne University, NAACP-Duquesne Chapter, the Ebony Women for Social Change, Black Greek Council, Multicultural Program Advisory Council, Union of African Students, Caribbean Student Association, Black Law Student Association and many other students on campus. Dinner will be provided. Seating is limited. Attendees are asked to RSVP to satterwhitea@duq.edu.

Tuesday, Feb. 25

Come join faculty, students, staff and community leaders as the second cohort of men are inducted into the Collegiate 100 of Duquesne from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Africa Room.  The Collegiate 100 of Duquesne University is an auxiliary unit of the 100 Black Men of Western Pennsylvania, with a mission to nurture and enhance the growth, development and opportunities for young African American males.  Dinner will be provided.  Please RSVP to satterwhitea@duq.edu. Wednesday, Feb. 26

On the anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s murder, Ebony Women: Women for Social Change invites students to sign a pledge to be tolerant and accepting of students who are culturally different.
