Dr. Janie Fritz, professor of communication and rhetorical studies, received two awards at the Eastern Communication Association’s annual meeting April 23-27 in Providence, R.I. Her book, Professional Civility: Communicative Virtue at Work, received the Everett Lee Hunt Award, which is presented to those whose work reflects the philosophic commitment and scholarly contributions of Hunt, a founder of the discipline of communication. Additionally, Fritz was selected as a member of the Eastern Communication Association’s Distinguished Research Fellows.

Karl Skutski, adjunct lecturer in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, gave a presentation at the Catholic Library Association’s 93rd annual convention, held in Pittsburgh from April 22-24. In his presentation, he utilized humanistic and Christian films to exemplify how secular humanism has become the grand narrative in contemporary film by default and how educators can use binary opposition to uncover the underlying ethics of a film.

Dr. John Stolz, professor of environmental microbiology and director of the Center for Environmental Research and Education, discussed his study of contaminated wells in the Woodlands area of Butler County at the Butler Library on April 26.
