Grief Counseling Available Through University’s Group Life Insurance

MetLife, the University’s group life insurance, now offers grief-counseling services at no additional cost for full-time, DUFlex-eligible employees.

Provided by Harris, Rothenberg International, Inc., the grief counseling service offers licensed professional counselors and related services to employees, their dependents and beneficiaries to help cope with situations they perceive as a major loss, including:

  • Death of a loved one
  • Divorce
  • Loss of employment
  • Receiving a serious medical diagnosis
  • Loss of a pet
  • Financial hardship.

“Facing a loss is never easy,” explained Donna Steed, assistant director of human resources-benefits. “This new service provides employees with a resource to help them cope with major life circumstances that may trigger feelings of grief.”

Employees can schedule up to five confidential counseling sessions per event. Sessions can either take place in-person or by phone.
