Catholic Artistic Imagination Series to Explore Beauty of Gregorian Chant

The power and beauty of Gregorian chant will be examined in the upcoming session of the Catholic Artistic Imagination Series.

Sister Marie Agatha Ozah, assistant professor of ethnomusicology, will present Gregorian Chant: Liturgical Music and Catholic Intellectualism, in the chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. Following the event, a reception will be held in Room 613 of the Union until 5:30 p.m.

Sister Ozah will share some history of chant and assist those attending in understanding its musical form. Attendees will also have the opportunity to listen to and participate in chant.

The Catholic Artistic Imagination Series is hosted by the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. “This event provides a lovely opportunity to experience and better appreciate a beautiful artistic and liturgical tradition,” said Dr. Darlene Weaver, director of the center. “It will be an especially welcome respite during the busy academic and holiday season.”

The event is open to faculty, staff and students 21 or older, though space is limited. Attendees are asked to RSVP to Judi O’Brien.
