PAMLE Honors School of Education for Service to Middle School-Aged Students

The Pennsylvania Association for Middle Level Education (PAMLE) has recognized the School of Education with an award for distinguished service.

Dr. Jason Margolis

The school was chosen because of its work in promotion of best practices for young adolescents, understanding these students’ developmental uniqueness and instilling in future educators the ability to plan for instruction to meet these developmental needs and sustain academic rigor in their classrooms.

“This award is significant in that it acknowledges the importance of attending to the learning and developmental needs of this particular age group—one that, until recently, had been under-recognized,” said Dr. Jason Margolis, chair of the Department of Instruction and Leadership in Education. “Additionally, the award acknowledges the particular work we have done here in the School of Education to build a program that addresses these learning needs in a systematic, innovative way.”

Duquesne received the award at the PAMLE conference awards banquet. The organization, one of 50 state affiliates of the national Association for Middle Level Education, is dedicated to maximizing each student’s achievement in a safe, innovative and developmentally appropriate environment through the promotion of best middle-level practices.
