Students Plan to ‘Stand Up’ for Homeless Children Today

A class of University students is hosting an event on campus designed to raise awareness for The Homeless Children’s Education Fund (HCEF).

The students are asking peers, faculty and staff to join them for The Stand Up event at 5:10 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 15, as they stand together on Academic Walk for 15 minutes with a mask representing a homeless child held up to their face.

“The Stand Up involves participants standing in silence in the middle of campus with a mask of a homeless child to draw attention to this unseen population,” said Dr. Erik Garrett, who teaches Integrated Marking Communications-Public Relations. “For four years now, students at Duquesne have partnered with the HCEF to raise awareness, money and supplies for the nearly 2,000 homeless children in Allegheny County.”
