Campus 2014 United Way Campaign Earns ‘Community Choice Award’

The University’s 2014 United Way Campaign was recently recognized by the United Way of Allegheny County with the Community Choice Award.

Presented at a June 10 United Way luncheon, the Community Choice Award highlights a special event or activity designed to increase campaign participation. The honor was awarded to Duquesne for the Wild, Wild Wednesday event that was held at The Red Ring on Nov. 19.

The Community Choice Award was decided by the public, which was invited to vote online. Duquesne competed against Bayer, Dollar Bank, Hefren-Tillotson and PPG Industries for the award.

Duquesne’s 2014 United Way Campaign surpassed its goal of $105,000 by raising $108,054. It also was one of the top 100 campaigns out of the region’s approximately 700 campaigns.

In addition, Duquesne successfully exceeded the United Way’s 105 Percent Challenge, which was a call to increase contributions in more than one campaign category, such as dollars raised or number of leadership donors. In the area of leadership donors, the University surpassed the challenge with a 25 percent increase.

Duquesne’s efforts helped the United Way of Allegheny County’s 2014 campaign raise a record total of $34.7 million.

Duquesne’s 2014 United Way Campaign was spearheaded by chairperson Nicole Feldhues, director of career services, and co-chair Tom Hart, director of public safety.
