Green Center Offers Program in Advance of Sustainable Restaurant Designation

Duquesne’s Center for Green Industries and Sustainable Business Growth will host restaurateurs, food service workers, farmers and suppliers at an educational and networking seminar emphasizing sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in advance of a Sustainable Restaurant Designation program.

The seminar, Restaurant Recipes for Success, will be held on campus on Monday, July 27, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts from single-location and chain-restaurant levels. Additionally, they will hear about Sustainable Pittsburgh’s up-and-coming Sustainable Restaurant Designation program and have time to network.

Speakers from Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, Bella Sera, Sustainable Pittsburgh and LeanPath will provide insights into consumer and dietary trends, resource efficient restaurant technologies, sourcing and sustainability, and waste-reduction strategies. Sustainable Pittsburgh also will present on the development of its Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurants program, a promising performance-based program similar to its Green Workplace Challenge and Sustainable Small Business Designation.

The Center for Green Industries is also partnering with the local chapters of the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association and the American Culinary Federation for this seminar.

Register online for the program, which will be held in Room 101 of Rockwell Hall. Cost is $30.
