Afternoon of Performances to Mark Dedication of New Genesius Theater

President Charles J. Dougherty invites faculty and staff to attend the dedication ceremony of the new Genesius Theater on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 3 p.m.

The 10,500-square-foot, two-story multipurpose structure holds approximately 130 seats and features:

  • A main entrance and lobby
  • A rehearsal hall
  • Dressing rooms
  • Building shops
  • Costume storage
  • A green room.

To mark the opening of the Genesius Theater, the dedication ceremony will include

a monologue from the Red Masquers’ first show to be performed in the theater, Death of a Salesman, featuring School of Law Professor Mark Yochum; a song from the Spotlight Musical Theater’s fall musical Company; and numbers from Mary Pappert School of Music student performers.

The Genesius Theater is named for the third-century martyr Genesius of Rome, an actor who underwent a transformative religious experience and converted to Christianity while on stage. Genesius was eventually named the patron saint of actors and other performers.

Faculty and staff are asked to RSVP to attend the dedication ceremony.
