United Way Campaign Brings Employees Together

While a single person may have the power to make a difference, the effort is even stronger when that person is united with others in a shared purpose. That is the message that United Way Chair Tom Hart, director of public safety, shared at the 2015 United Way Campaign kickoff breakfast.

“Our financial goal this year is to raise $96,341 through employee giving and another $11,715 through special events,” said Hart at the Sept. 18 event. “But I want to focus on bringing people on campus together to show what we can accomplish when we work as a team.”

Hart cited ways that campus members are already joining efforts to support the United Way, including a new Parkhurst and Department of Public Safety co-sponsored event, Cops and Chefs BBQ, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14, and several other upcoming fundraising efforts, from hoagie and walking-taco sales to a special concert with Johnny Angel.

“Helping others is what we do at Duquesne,” explained Hart. “How great is it to see that in action, whether it’s at the upcoming Cops and Chefs BBQ, a Red Ring Monday happy hour sponsored by different groups and departments or at the annual Breast Cancer Awareness walk on campus.”

Online donations can be made via Duquesne’s United Way website. Gifts can be designated to the United Way Impact Fund, which attends to the biggest areas of concern in Allegheny County, or to the donor’s agency of choice.
