‘Schubert on the Bluff’ Season One Concludes with ‘Wanderer Fantasy’
Season one of Schubert on the Bluff, the popular three-year concert series presented by the Mary Pappert School of Music, will conclude this weekend.
Concert IV: Wanderer Fantasy, which will be held Sunday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. in the PNC Recital Hall, will feature music by composers Franz Schubert and the late Mary Pappert School of Music Professor Emeritus David Stock.
The repertoire will include Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor for Arpeggione and Piano, Two Impromptus, Der Wanderer (The Wanderer), and Fantasy in C Major (Wanderer) along with Stock’s Eitz Chayim (Tree of Life).
According to series Artistic Director David Allen Wehr, the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair in the music school, each season of Schubert on the Bluff will include a performance of Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, but for piano paired with a different instrument. This weekend’s concert features the cello.
In addition to Wehr, performers during Wanderer Fantasy include:
- Barbara Nissman, guest pianist
- Adam Liu, adjunct professor of cello and member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO)
- Xiu-ru Liu, adjunct professor of voice
- Meng Wang, adjunct professor of viola and member of the PSO.
A pre-concert discussion, featuring Wehr and Nissman, will take place beginning at 2:30 p.m.
