Filmmaker to Discuss UN Climate Change Conference Agreement, Local Impact

Award-winning documentary filmmaker and environmental activist Mark Dixon will visit campus to discuss the agreement reached during the historic United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Paris in December.

The McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts and the Center for Social and Public Policy will host the event on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Room 104 of College Hall. A reception will immediately follow the presentation, which is free and open to faculty, staff and students.

Dixon, who was personally invited to the conference by Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, will explain what the agreement forged during the conference means and what actions are expected. He has made numerous presentations about his experience at the conference and the outcomes. In addition, he blogged extensively while at the conference and continues to blog about his post-conference work in Pittsburgh.

Among Dixon’s films are Your Environmental Road Trip, a year-long eco-expedition through all 50 states and the recent award-winning documentary, The Power of One Voice: A 50-Year Perspective on the Life of Rachel Carson. His films and speeches have been featured at venues such as TEDx Pittsburgh, Sony Pictures, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Bioneers Conference, the Mother Earth News Fair, the Carnegie Science Center and Russia’s Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography.
