Human Rights Film Series Presents ‘Place at the Table’

The various implications of hunger in the United States and how the issue can be solved will be explored at the next screening of the Duquesne University 2016 Human Rights Film Series.

The 2012 documentary Place at the Table will be screened tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of College Hall.

Directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, Place at the Table examines the issue of hunger in America by focusing on the plight of three individuals who are struggling with food insecurity, including a single mother of two in Philadelphia, a 5th grader in Colorado and a 2nd grader in Mississippi. Place at the Table also includes insights from known experts, activists such as actor Jeff Bridges and Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio, and ordinary citizens.

Immediately following the screening, a question-and-answer session will be held with Cynthia Moore, chief outreach officer for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s.

The six-film series will continue to explore its theme of From Silence to Solidarity, when it concludes next week with a screening of The True Cost on Thursday, Feb. 25.

The Human Rights Film Series, which is presented by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 412.396.6415.
