Director of Information Security/New Initiatives Named at Duquesne University

Thomas J. Dugas Jr. has been named director of information security/new initiatives at Duquesne University, effective April 4. The new position is part of the University’s Computing and Technology Services (CTS) area under the Division of Management and Business.

In his new role, Dugas will be responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive, unified information (cyber) security program that includes detection, prevention, incident response and cyber security awareness. He also will oversee the development and implementation of an Identity and Access Management Program and Data Governance.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Tom’s talent and experience join the University,” said Chuck Bartel, assistant vice president and chief information officer at Duquesne. “Tom will be a great addition to our CTS team.”

Dugas most recently served as the associate director of client operations in computing services at Carnegie Mellon University, where he previously served as associate director and head of planning and project management; associate director of global information technology services; and associate director of user and educational services.

In addition, Dugas has been involved with EDUCAUSE and the EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research. He also spent several years providing IT consulting for two public accounting firms, where he was an active member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, and he also has performed various internal IT audits during his career.

Dugas, who is a resident of Plum, has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with dual majors in accounting and management information systems and a Master of Science in communications and information systems from Robert Morris University. He was a 2009 Frye/Leading Change Institute Fellow and is a 2006 graduate of the EDUCAUSE Leadership Institute.
