Presented by the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Nursing, the Cameos of Caring honors outstanding nurses throughout the region for their commitment, dedication and passion for patients, families, students and more.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from my colleagues in the School of Nursing,” said Simmer. “It is a privilege to work with students and to advance the profession of nursing.”

The 2016 awardees represent nursing schools and a variety of health systems and hospitals. Simmer is one of eight recipients of the Cameos of Caring’s Nurse Educator honor this year.

Simmer joined the nursing school in 1994 as an undergraduate clinical instructor and continued to teach in the undergraduate program until 2014. She began her role as assistant dean for recruitment in 1997. Simmer has clinical experience as an assistant director of nursing administration at Allegheny General Hospital; outpatient internal medicine manager at Michigan State University Clinical Center; and as a staff nurse in general surgical nursing, gastroenterology, orthopedics, trauma, home care and long term care.
