Campus Community Risk Team Reviews, Expands Goals to Better Serve University

After a recent review, the responsibilities and charge of the Campus Community Risk Team (CCRT) have been expanded.

The CCRT is a multidisciplinary team that receives reports from members of the campus community if an individual poses or may pose a threat to the campus community or to any member of the campus community.

In such instances, as a result of the recent review, the CCRT has broadened its scope to work together to make an individualized assessment to determine what, if any, action to take to remove and/or mitigate the threat. This action may be for some period of time or indefinitely. For example, actions could range from requiring an individual to see a therapist to suspension from the campus while the person complies with an intervention plan.

“Our role, working with many others on campus, is to develop interventions that may provide the help that an individual needs,” explained Dr. Alexandra Gregory, associate provost for academic affairs, who chairs the CCRT. “Our aim is to work together as a team to promote safety and wellbeing for the University community.”

Besides interventions based on assessment, the new goals of the CCRT focus on education, communication, planning, assessment and management.

In addition to Gregory, members of the CCRT include:

  • Dr. Ian Edwards, assistant vice president for student wellbeing
  • Jennifer S. Fink, Esq., associate legal counsel/director of risk management
  • John Greeno, Esq., assistant vice president/chief human resources officer
  • Tom Hart, chief/director of public safety
  • Dessa Mrvos, director of health services
  • Sharon Oelschlager, director of residence life
  • Dr. Gerard Magill, professor and faculty representative
  • Anne Mularkey Sawa, director of the Office of Student Conduct
  • The Rev. Dan Walsh, C.S.Sp., director of Spiritan Campus Ministry.

In case of an emergency, students, faculty and staff should call the Duquesne University Police at 412.396.2677.

If there is not an emergency situation, but you are concerned about the behaviors of someone please contact any CCRT member, whose information is on the CCRT website. The team always seeks to maintain confidentiality although that may not always be possible depending upon the circumstances and concerns reported.
