Join the Challenge & the DU Community for Bike to Work Day

Duquesne will again celebrate National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 19.

Stop by the BIKEDUQ Commuter Station on Forbes Avenue, across the street from Barnes & Noble. The station will provide free coffee, orange juice and donuts from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. to those venturing to work on their bicycles.

The event is hosted by the Duquesne Bicycle Club and co-sponsored by the Duquesne Center for Environmental Research and Education. Members of Duquesne’s bicycle community will share information on biking on and near campus as well as across the city. This includes a BikePGH commuter guide and information surrounding the Duquesne Bicycle Club.

“It’s an important reminder for people to adopt a new way to work, especially with the ongoing construction projects around the city, that riding a bike can be a much easier way to campus,” said Dr. David Lampe, associate professor of biology and an avid cyclist who makes a daily ride from Shaler Township.

Lampe also encourages the DU bike community to sign up for the National Bike Challenge and select Duquesne as their school. This nationwide challenge unites thousands of current bicyclists—and inspires countless new riders.

In the National Bike Challenge 2016, Duquesne cyclists pedaled their way to rank 29 out of 201 universities nationwide. Riders can again record the miles they log between May 1 and Sept 30.
