Hogan Dining Center Awarded Gold Plate

The Hogan Dining Center is the first university dining service in southwestern Pennsylvania to earn Gold Plate status with the Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant program.

“Hogan Dining’s Gold Plate is yet another way Duquesne University demonstrates commitment to building a stronger, more resilient region for its people, environment and economy,” said Rebecca Bykoski, program manager at Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant.

The organization defines a sustainable restaurant as one that demonstrates a commitment to managing the social and environmental impact of its operations as central to its strategy for economic success.

“We welcome any opportunity to showcase our dining program, and recognitions like this one validate that we’re providing a great experience on campus,” said Scott Richards, executive director of auxiliary services at Duquesne.

A dining program can earn its sustainable designation from Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant over five levels, being awarded different “plates” that indicate a level of achievement. Levels are based on points achieved in performing specific actions from a series of categories, which involve waste reduction; water conservation; energy efficiency; people; responsible sourcing; and nutrition.

“This award gives the university another indicator about our commitment to providing a very high standard to our campus community” added Richards.
