Duquesne Receives Veterans Community Partner Award

The Veterans Leadership Program (VLP) of Western Pennsylvania recently honored Duquesne with the 2017 Community Partner Award for the University’s commitment to supporting veterans.

“Duquesne is proud of its rich history of support for and commitment to those who serve or have served our country,” said Don Accamando, director of the Office of Military and Veteran Students. “We remain committed to supporting active duty service members, veterans and their families, and are pleased to support the Veterans Leadership Program and the initiatives it helps to sustain.”

The Community Partner Award is given annually to an institution that works closely with the VLP to further their mission of assisting veterans throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Duquesne was recognized for providing free military psychological services to veterans, service members and their families, as well as offering justice intervention through the School of Law’s Veterans Clinic. In addition, the University proudly hosts the annual Veterans Day Breakfast.

“Since establishing the first formal military education program on campus in 1917, military service members and veterans have enrolled in each school of study at Duquesne,” Accamando added. “Currently, many service members and veterans reside in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts, both in online and on-campus degree programs. We also participated in a three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing grant in the School of Nursing.”
