Financial Aid Seeking Volunteers to Help with July FAST Program

The Office of Financial Aid is currently recruiting employee volunteers to help with the University’s FAST (Freshman Advisement Summer Transition) Lab.

During the past two years, volunteers have assisted hundreds of incoming freshman and transfer student families who visited the FAST Lab hosted by the financial aid office. These volunteers help the new students and their families navigate:

  • Financial Aid
  • FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
  • Student accounts/authorized payer
  • Student work study positions
  • Textbook lists
  • Additional critical areas of support.

“The work we do in the FAST Lab is important in helping students and their families feel welcome and prepared as they embark upon the start of their academic careers here at Duquesne University,” explained Mark Moore, assistant director of financial aid. “We could not provide this excellent service to our new students and their families without the efforts of our volunteers.”

The 2017 FAST Lab will be held 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Tuesday, July 11, through Friday, July 14, on the fourth floor of Gumberg Library. Food will be provided for volunteers in the library starting at 11a.m. Volunteers will also receive a t-shirt.

New and returning volunteers can sign up for volunteer-training sessions via MyLEAD. Sessions are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, July 5, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
  • Monday, July 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, July 10, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

New and returning volunteers can also post their available FAST Lab volunteer times in the financial aid office’s Doodle poll or by emailing beckm1@duq.edu with a t-shirt size.
