Archivists of Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman Collection to Speak at Duquesne

The National Institute for Newman Studies (NINS), a non-profit affiliated with Duquesne, will hold the fall 2017 Newman Lecture to focus on archival efforts to preserve the unpublished manuscripts of Cardinal Newman.

Messrs. Daniel Joyce and Lawrence Gregory, archivists for the Newman Archive at the Oratory in Birmingham, England, will present The Archives of Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman: Preserving and Promoting the Heritage of a 19th-Century Priest and Theologian Through 21st-Century Digital Scholarship. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Monday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom.

Joyce and Gregory will outline the history of the archive, explore the nature of its importance for Newman Studies and present an account of the four-year project of digitizing the archive.

In addition, Lawrence Gregory, archivist to the John Henry Newman Collection, will lead a workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the NINS located at 211 N. Dithridge St., Pittsburgh. A light lunch will be served.
