Concert Explores German Composer’s Music, Struggles with Mental Illness

The Adult Learning & Lecture (ALL) Series continues with The Many Personalities of Robert Schumann on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. in the PNC Recital Hall of the Mary Pappert School of Music.

Hosted by City Music Center, the concert will feature David Allen Wehr, the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair in the music school, and include musical illustrations Papillons and Forest Scenes.

A German Romantic composer, critic and pianist during the 19th century, Schumann’s work was heavily influenced by his struggle with mental illness and fraught relationship with his wife, pianist Clara Wieck.

The ALL Series is designed to provide engaging educational experiences for adult learners interested in expanding their awareness and understanding of music and its impact (past, present, and future) on business, culture, politics and the ever-changing social landscape.

Tickets to The Many Personalities of Robert Schumann are $15 and can be purchased online.
