‘Schubert on the Bluff’ Presents ‘Piano Duet II’ This Weekend

The final season of the Schubert on the Bluff series returns this weekend with Concert X: Piano Duet II.

Slated for Sunday, Nov. 12, the concert marks the completion of Franz Schubert’s major works for four hands at one piano by David Allen Wehr, the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair and artistic director of the series, and Cynthia Raim. The two will perform Variations on an Original Theme for Piano Duet, D. 813 and Fantasy in F Minor for Piano Duet, D. 940.

French composer Claude Debussy, whose works are also featured this season, will be represented “by the charming Petite Suite for Piano Duet and the sweeping masterpiece En Blanc Et Noir for Two Pianos,” according to Wehr.

Jeffrey Turner, principal bassist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, will perform Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor for Arpeggione and Piano, D. 821, on contrabass.

Wehr and Turner will also present the pre-concert discussion at 2:30 p.m. followed by the concert at 3 p.m. in the PNC Recital Hall.

Tickets to Concert X: Piano Duet II are $15 and can be bought online or by calling the A.J. Palumbo Center Box Office at 412.232.3853. All seating is reserved.
