Contemporary Theology, Discussions of Vatican II Addressed at Spring Newman Lecture

The National Institute for Newman Studies (NINS), a non-profit affiliated with Duquesne, will focus on Blessed John Henry Newman’s ongoing significance for contemporary theological discussions by examining the deliberations at the Second Vatican Council during the Spring 2018 Newman Lecture.

Newman, who is often referred to as the “Father of Vatican II,” has been an important resource in the reception of Vatican II’s teachings. Insights from Newman for the Church Today will be held Thursday, March 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gailliot Center for Newman Studies, located at 211 N. Dithridge St.

NINS Director Dr. Ryan Marr will be the featured presenter, and Father Edward Mazich, O.S.B., rector of St. Vincent Seminary, will offer a response. The lecture will be followed by a brief Q&A session.

The NINS facilitates scholarly learning and dialogue on the enduring relevance of John Henry Newman’s life, work and influence to foster intellectual and spiritual growth.
