Duquesne Mourns the Loss of Former Theology Ph.D. Student

The Duquesne community is saddened by the loss of Sr. Anne Nasimiyu-Wasike, a former doctoral student in the department of theology and member of the Little Sisters of St. Francis.

Nasimiyu, who earned her doctorate in 1985, was the first African woman to receive a doctoral degree in philosophy. She later became a theology professor and dean of students at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya, and served as superior general of the Little Sisters of St. Francis in her region of Uganda.

Nasimiyu passed away on Feb. 22 and will be laid to rest at Nkokonjeru Mother House of the Lugazi Diocese in Uganda.
