Panel Event to Discuss Freedom of the Press and Civil Rights

The Consortium for Christian-Muslim Dialogue (CCMD) will host a panel discussion to address the issues of freedom of the press and civil rights, particularly in Turkey.

Freedom of the Press and Religion: Violations of Civil Rights in Turkey and Across the World will be held this Friday, April 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the Union’s Africa Room.

Panelists include:

  • James C. Harrington, director emeritus and founder of the Texas Civil Rights Project, a non-profit foundation that works to ensure social, racial and economic justice and civil liberty
  • Abdülhamit Bilici, former editor in chief of Zaman, the largest daily newspaper in Turkey.

Dr. Carla Lucente, professor of modern languages and literatures, and associate director of the Center for International Relations, will moderate the panel discussion.

Freedom of the Press and Religion was organized by the CCMD and is sponsored by the Turkish Cultural Center of Pittsburgh. Light refreshments will be provided.
