Music School Concert, Greek Fraternity Fundraiser to Benefit Tree of Life Synagogue

In light of this weekend’s tragic shooting in Squirrel Hill, members of the University community are invited to participate in two campus activities designed to benefit the Tree of Life Synagogue.

The music of Billy StrayhornThe Mary Pappert School of Music will donate the proceeds from ticket sales to The Music of Billy Strayhorn, a concert slated for this Friday, Nov. 2, to the Tree of Life Synagogue. Tickets are $10 for general admission seating and can be purchased at the door.

The concert, featuring the Duquesne Jazz Ensemble (Mike Tomaro, director), Jazz Workshop (Jeff Bush, director) and the extracurricular Vocal Jazz Ensemble (Kelley Krepin DeFade, director) will pay tribute to Strayhorn, a Pittsburgh native and legendary jazz composer. Songs such as Chelsea Bridge, Day Dream, Satin Doll and Lush Life will be featured in the program, to name just a few.

The Phi Kappa Theta and Sigma Nu fraternities at Duquesne will be selling $2 black-and-yellow Pittsburgh Strong bracelets from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the third floor of the Union from Friday, Nov. 2, through Friday, Nov. 9. All proceeds will go to the Tree of Life Synagogue to support the victim’s families and those affected by the tragedy.
