Forensic Fridays Examines Trauma’s Psychological Impact on First Responders, Service Providers

In the aftermath of such incidents as the mass murder at Tree of Life synagogue, communities sometime neglect to address the critical needs of first responders, health professionals and others who must treat victims and investigate these violent incidents. The psychological impact of such incidents will be the focus of an upcoming seminar.

As part of its Forensic Fridays professional education series, the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law will present Addressing Vicarious Trauma in the Criminal Justice Community on Jan. 25 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Africa Room.

A panel of experts in social work, forensic nursing, police training and pastoral counseling will discuss issues surrounding secondary traumatic stress and strategies for helping those who suffer from it.
