Civil Discourse Series to Focus on Faith, Community in a Changing Society

Duquesne will present Civil Discourse, Faith and Community in a Changing Society, on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom. The event is part of the University’s Civil Discourse series, which explores the importance of respectful debate on challenging topics. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

The presentation will be moderated by WTAE-TV news anchor Mike Clark, who also serves as an adjunct professor of journalism at Duquesne. Panelists include:

  • The Most Rev. David A. Zubik, D.D., bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh
  • Rabbi Jessica E. Locketz, rabbi and director of education, Temple Emanuel
  • Paul Abernathy, director, FOCUS Pittsburgh
  • Imam Abdul Aziz Suraqah, imam and religious director, Muslim Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh.

Civil Discourse, Faith and Community in a Changing Society will discuss the importance of faith and community—for people of all ages and backgrounds—in creating a culture of civility.

The event is sponsored by the Office of the President and presented in partnership with the Division of Mission & Identity and the Division of Student Life. A reception in the Shepperson Suite will follow the event.
