Day of Giving Again Experiences Record-Breaking Donations

For the third consecutive year, the annual Duquesne Day of Giving resulted in record-high numbers, surpassing $300,000 in total funds raised for the first time in the campaign’s history.

The 2019 campaign’s 1,740 gifts made Feb. 19 led to $332,529 in donations—both of which mark new one-day records for the initiative. Donors had the option to make an unrestricted gift to The Duquesne Fund (which helps the University meet its most pressing needs) or designate a gift to the school, organization or sports team of their choice.

“I’m humbled and inspired by the incredible turnout for this year’s Duquesne Day of Giving,” David Jakielo, assistant director of annual giving, said.

The number of gifts increased by 8 percent this year, and dollars raised increased by almost 13 percent. “It’s wonderful to see these totals climb year after year, and we couldn’t be more pleased with this outpouring of generosity from faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends,” Jakielo said.

Other highlights from the 2019 Duquesne Day of Giving include:

  • The unlocking of $95,355 in challenge gifts
  • Support for more than 200 schools, organizations and athletic teams
  • Donations from 42 states, including Alaska
  • International donations from Canada, Colombia, Italy, Estonia, Israel and Kenya
  • Donations from 143 current Duquesne undergraduate and graduate students
  • 424 #DUQDayofGiving social media posts.
