Darlene Weaver Named Associate Provost

Dr. Darlene Weaver has been named associate provost for academic affairs for the University.

In this new role, Weaver joins the senior leadership team in the Division of Academic Affairs. She supervises the Center for Teaching Excellence, the University Core Curriculum, the Pre-Medical and Health Professions Program and the University Honors College. Weaver’s responsibilities include academic assessment, new program development and revisions, and academic program reviews.

In addition, Weaver chairs a number of University committees, including the University Graduate Council, the Faculty Leadership and Advisory Council, and the Campus Community Risk Team. She also is Duquesne’s accreditation liaison for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and Pennsylvania Department of Education.

“I’m delighted to collaborate with Duquesne’s leadership, faculty, staff and students to advance our academic mission and contribute to the University’s success,” Weaver said.

Weaver joined the University in 2012 as inaugural director of the new Center for Catholic Faith and Culture. She was appointed director of the University Core Curriculum in 2016. Weaver designed and continues to manage the University-wide core curriculum revision process. She also is a tenured, full professor of theology in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, where she continues to mentor and advise graduate students.

Weaver has more than 20 years of administrative experience in Catholic higher education. She was a tenured Associate professor at Villanova University and a visiting assistant professor at Georgetown University. Weaver is a nationally recognized scholar who specializes in ethics. She is the author of three books, dozens of articles and book chapters, and holds a number of leadership positions in professional organizations. Weaver also has secured more than half a million dollars in research grants and fellowships.
