University Launches 2019 United Way Campaign

Duquesne employees are invited to support Pittsburgh and surrounding communities through the University’s 2019 United Way campaign.

The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania helps tens of thousands of families meet basic needs and assists disabled individuals and seniors gain employment and live independently.

This year’s campaign, which has a $108,000 fundraising goal, is chaired by Chase Loper, director of shared services in facilities management, who is working with co-chair Kate DeLuca, assistant dean of student affairs in the School of Nursing.

Faculty and staff can make online donations via the University’s campaign website at www.duq.edu/unitedway. Donors have the opportunity to support Duquesne-supported agencies, such as the Empowerment Scholarship Program and the City Music Center. A list of these agencies is available online.

In addition, donors can support the United Way Impact Fund, which targets the most important needs in the community, or designate gifts to support other crucial efforts in a particular community.

On-campus campaign activities kick off with the $2 for $2 Lunch. Donors who make a minimum pledge of $2 per pay ($52 annual) to the University’s campaign by Wednesday, Sept. 18, will be entered into an early bird drawing for prizes and will receive a ticket to enjoy a $2 lunch at the Hogan Dining Center on Friday, Sept. 20. Lunch that day will feature new menu fare from the Red Ring.

A sampling of upcoming United Way Campaign events include:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 9, Gourmet Hot Dog Sale, hosted by the Office of Computing and Technology Services
  • Tuesday, Oct. 15, Cops ‘n Chef BBQ on the Bluff, hosted by Parkhurst Dining and the Department of Public Safety
  • Thursday, Oct. 31, Walking Taco Sale and Lottery Tree Raffle, hosted by the School of Education.
