Next ‘Bluff Series’ Concert will Celebrate Beethoven’s 250th Birthday
An upcoming Mary Pappert School of Music concert will celebrate German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday.
Best of the Bluff: Beethoven at 250, Part One will take place Sunday, Sept. 29, from 3-5 p.m. in the music school’s PNC Recital Hall. Music dean David Allen Wehr, artistic director of the series, will talk with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) Principal Cellist Anne Martindale Williams during a 2:30 p.m. pre-concert discussion.
The repertoire will include Beethoven’s Sonatas for Cello and Piano No. 1 and No. 5, Johannes Brahms’ Two Songs with Viola and Franz Schubert’s The Shepherd on the Rock and By the Stream.
The Best of the Bluff series features favorite musical works from previous years’ series as voted on last year by series audience members.
Music school faculty, many of whom are members of the PSO, will continue to be at the center of the series’ artistic corps. Best of the Bluff also will feature other PSO members and international guest artists.
