School of Health Sciences Introduces New Undergraduate ProgramsThe school will offer a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts in public health, making it the first undergraduate public health major in the region. It will also offer a bachelor’s in health sciences.

“As the population ages, the need for health care professionals will continue to grow,” Dr. Fevzi Akinci, dean of the health sciences school, said. “These new programs will provide students with the expertise they need to work in a range of settings while also providing a gateway to graduate degree programs in various disciplines.”

The Bachelor of Science in public health focuses on the scientific dimensions of health and is aimed at students wanting to study infectious and chronic diseases, environmental health and general epidemiology.

The Bachelor of Arts in public health is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on social, behavioral and community health aspects of public health, global health, program planning, development and assessment.

The Bachelor of Science in health sciences provides students with the skills needed to conduct comprehensive health and fitness assessments, develop programs to address patients’ needs, assess patient outcomes and implement appropriate program changes. This major also may serve as a pathway to graduate programs in health care fields such as medical/veterinary/dental medicine, athletic training, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy and many others.
