Uptown Jazz Series Continues to Celebrate Pittsburgh’s Rich History

The Mary Pappert School of Music continues to honor Pittsburgh’s rich cultural history with the next installment of its Uptown Jazz Series.

Uptown Jazz Series

Local Legends—Pittsburgh Pianists will be held Monday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the music school’s PNC Recital Hall.

The ensemble, which comprises music school faculty, is led by Director of Jazz Studies Mike Tomaro and includes trumpeter Joe Badaczewski, trombonist Jeff Bush and pianist Max Leake, among other performers. The concert also will feature former music school professor and esteemed New York City jazz recording artist David Budway on piano.

The Uptown Jazz Series was created in 2015 to commemorate the jazz art form. Now in its fourth year, the series’ focus is on Pittsburgh-native jazz composers and artists.

This year, the Uptown Jazz Series has partnered with nonprofit Pittsburgh Creators’ Project, which promotes local creators in the arts of dance, music, painting, photography, theater, culinary and more. Project members will display their work in the PNC Recital Hall lobby during the concert.
