School of Education Launches New Initiative with Special Event

Duquesne will launch its new Project Hope initiative with a special event on Feb. 8.

Project Hope is designed to better equip School of Education students to teach, support and advocate for children experiencing homelessness.

Dr. Peter Miller from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will serve as keynote speaker at the event, which will take place in Room 108 of Canevin Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch served at 11:30. Students, faculty and staff will learn about the vision for Project Hope and the next steps in curriculum formation.

Miller is a professor in educational leadership and policy analysis and an affiliate for the Institute for Research on Poverty. A former Duquesne School of Education faculty member, his research focuses on leadership, cross-sector education reform and homelessness.

Project Hope works to sensitize and inform educational leaders and administrators on the challenges confronting K-12 students experiencing homelessness. It also prepares educators to support learning environments where youth can be self-sufficient.
