Ash Wednesday Schedules Include Evening Mass by Bishop Zubik

Celebrate Ash Wednesday on Wednesday, Feb. 17, by receiving ash at several locations throughout Duquesne’s campus and attending one of the many services at the University Chapel of the Holy Spirit, including a 9 p.m. Mass by the Most Rev. David A. Zubik, D.D., bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

“Instead of placing ash on the forehead, the priest or lay minister will sprinkle ash over the head,” said Fr. Bill Christy, director of campus ministry and University chaplain. “This is common in many parts of the world and has biblical connotations.”

Fr. Christy provided this recorded message to the campus, where he shares how this year’s Ash Wednesday will differ, the hope that it signifies and how this time of reflection helps Duquesne to be prepared for anything.

All Chapel services will have limited, in-person attendance (maximum 25 at each event). Registration is required if attending in-person. The noon Mass along with the evening Mass with Bishop Zubik will also be livestreamed for all to attend.
